Dear Folks
The 9th annual "For the Sake Of The
Lake" Patagonia shore clean up and club "HooHa" now
lies in our wake! Some one mentioned to me in passing that to
their way of thinking it was the best yet! Let me tell you that
was music to my ears as I thought earlier that it might be
anything but that. Earlier being at least 2 or 3 times during the
night when I awoke to the heavy staccato like beat of rain on the
tarp providing three of us shelter from the storm. My thoughts as
reoccurring as the rain were; 'Oh this is the year we're really
going to get it!'
No easy thing either lying there thinking that a lot of buddies
and pals might end up paying for some of your personal past sins.
Yet it would seem that goodness did prevail and together we all
did pass through the eye of the storm.
So a thanks to all who attended and made it once
again the great time that it was. And a special thanks or three to
some folks who were particular heroes that day both sung and
unsung. Geno Rosberg, for whom it will go down as a banner year. That
great new banner will be of aid in promoting further support for
the club's activities in the year ahead. More on that later. Those
who stayed ashore to staff our kitchen so's them that worked could
eat. Those that immediately come to mind here are folks who have
been absent for a while as life has had them both busy doing other
things. New member Rudi Lambrchtse, old member Ron Miller and Rick
Johnson's daughter, Cerridwen, recently returned from Africa. All
our tummies owe you a vote of thanks, not to mention a solid
burp all round! If there's any one else who selflessly served
in this area in an unbeknown fashion... just know we're
think'n of ya. Can you feel the love vibration?!!
Thanks To Club Pres. Steve Anderson for
formulating our first ever (bet it becomes a regular feature)
kayak race. Congrats to Dan Millis new club member and first ever
race winner! (Dan will hopefully be presenting a slide show or
video presentation of his recent solo Verde River WW adventure
from Camp Verde to Phoenix). Many thanks to Norma Miller for
going that little bit extra to make the first ever just a bit more
memorable. By the way, Steve, a number of competitors asked me if
their points earned are transferable to the national standings?
Hats off to the Patagonia Park Service staff who went out of their
way to put us up, and put up with us. Our relationship continues
to be of mutual admiration. That's about it for now friends,
hope to see you some time soon far from shore.
Your Paddle Pal
Royce D. Patagonia lake guy
Editor's Note: Let's
not overlook the "Patagonia lake guy" himself, Royce
Davenport. Royce deserves special thanks and recognition for
all the preparations, yearly PR work for getting our club
supporters to help with donating all those great prizes, food,
drinks, store discounts & signs. Royce has been
instrumental in keeping the great working relationship we have
with the folks at Patagonia Lake SP. Next time you see
Royce, give him a pat on the back, high-five, fist pump or just a
simple smile of thanks. Can't wait for our special Decade
edition in 2009.
